Elisa’s aim was to evaluate the impacts of digitalizing the clinical pathway of asthma treatment. Elisa also wanted to gain an understanding of the potential productivity impacts on the regional and national economy, society and the environment.
Gaia managed the evaluation project, and together with its partner Nordic HealthCare Group, gathered the relevant data and modelled the clinical pathway quantitatively, using city of Hämeenlinna as a case. The impacts were then scaled to national level.
The results indicate that there is potential for considerable savings in money (up to 27%) and time by using this approach. The potential environmental impacts are also considerable. If digitalization in this clinical pathway is scaled to a national level, savings may reach millions. Elisa has continued the work in the eHealth arena.
