Techno-economic
know-how for
energy solutions
“We must start work now to halve global emissions by 2050. This means working today to bring tomorrow's technology rapidly on stream.”
- José Barroso, President of the European Commission, 23 January 2008, in a speech to the European Parliament on Europe’s climate change opportunity
Solutions to increase renewable energy and improve energy efficiency
Gaia’s energy expertise covers comprehensive services ranging from strategic planning to project implementation, and from feasibility studies and risk assessment to the development of new business concepts. Our core competence areas are renewable energy, distributed generation, energy efficiency and energy saving, and combined heat and power (CHP).
We provide our clients with strategic, commercial, regulatory and policy advice. We assess different technological options and have the tools to calculate how electricity and fuel prices, load profiles, transmission and selling tariff, and subsidies affect the techno-economic profitability of small-scale electricity production. We also have in-house developed tools to optimise and control the use of on-site CHP plants, and to assess the feasibility of CHP investments.
We help our clients to explore business opportunities and develop new business concepts, especially for renewable energy and energy efficiency. We have a strong competence in foresight studies of the future of energy markets, energy market regulation, and energy technology.
From risk mitigation to new business opportunities
Gaia’s services help our energy-sector clients to take into account the requirements of economy, technology and environmental protection.
Cooperation with Gaia helps energy companies to improve their business performance by assessing the risk of their energy supply and distribution, and the risk of their CHP production. Our services also help our clients to analyse and understand the implications of their investments: We provide analyses on the productivity, return of investments, earnings, and operational efficiency of their future plans and opportunities. Feasibility studies by Gaia help organisations to estimate the techno-economic profitability of plant investment plans, and the reduction potential of greenhouse gas emissions.
Our services also assist our clients to look ahead: Gaia’s extensive contacts with decision-makers and the scientific community, and competence in foresight studies and innovation strategies prepare the clients for future energy regulations and trends, make use of new energy technologies, and seize new business opportunities in the energy sector.
Extensive scientific expertise combined with a pragmatic approach
We have a team of technology, regulatory, market, policy and risk experts working for the benefit of the client. Our customer portfolio consists of several national and international organisations operating in the energy technology domain, both in the public and private sector.
We understand the strategic and operational challenges of our clients, and deliver effectively on our promises. Often our energy sector services are complemented with our expertise from our climate change, innovation strategy and risk assessment services, thus giving our clients the benefit of our multi-disciplinary know-how.
