Study on distributed energy production in Skaftkärr testbed
A 400 hectare energy efficient residential area for at least 6000 citizens is built in Skaftkärr, Porvoo. Electrical building services centre (STOK) ordered a project from Gaia, where a pilot system for distributed energy production was developed, while studying its possibilities also in Skaftkärr. In the project, technologies were presented for small scale production of electricity and combined heat and power, and different energy storage solutions. The techno-economic profitability for the most suitable technologies for the area, were evaluated. The study showed that there are several domestic actors, who offer technologies for local energy production, however, the payback times are still long especially for the smallest scale energy solutions.
