Analysis of the European Union’s Lead Market Initiative

Gaia completed a study on the role of lead markets of the EU, for the purpose of developing innovative products and services. The study targeted the six sectors identified in the EU’s Lead Market Initiative: eHealth, bio-based products, recycling, sustainable construction, renewable energies and protective textiles. (Tekes, Ministry of Employment and the Economy of Finland 2009–2010)

In the study, these six sectors were analysed from the Finnish perspective, and national measures to promote innovative demand on these areas were identified.

 

The EU’s Lead Market Initiative (the LMI), ”A Lead Market Initiative for Europe”, was launched in December 2007 and will continue until 2011. It defines a policy to develop innovative lead markets within the EU.
