Study on forestry business activation
As part of Finland's Strategic Programme for the Forest Industry, Gaia studied new ways to ensure the best possible added value of nation's strategic forest resources. (The ministry of Employment and the Economy of Finland, 2009-2010)
Tekes technology programme evaluations
Gaia has completed ex-ante, mid-term, and ex-post evaluations for over twenty Tekes (The Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation) national research and technology development programmes. (2000 – on-going)
Study of innovation policy development in 9 European countries (ERA-NET Vision/Tekes)
Gaia conducted a study for ERA-NET Vision in order to support the policy learning related to the innovation policy transition. VISION Era-Net partners have initiated a study to compare and analyze recent developments in nine partner countries. The study will identify the major challenges facing the governance of national innovation systems and explore in detail what factors create pressure for renewal. The study included desktop analyses, interviews and country-workshops. (2007-2008)
The Ministry of Education is preparing a strategy for the internationalisation of higher education that is a part of the ongoing reform of the higher education system. Gaia supports the preparation of the strategy with various means (workshops, web-based consultation). Gaia also supports the actual writing process. The strategy will be ready by the end of year 2008. (2008)
Finnish-Japanese joint project to understand future societies
Tekes and Japanese NISTEP - National Institute of Science and Technology Policy have jointly organized a future looking project to understand the needs in future societies. (2007-2008)
Facilitation of national innovation policy strategy process
Gaia led a consortium that helped in building the national innovation strategy. The work involved the organisation and facilitation of 11 expert workshops and the design and analysis of the internet tool to collect opinions through an open consultation. The national strategy was published in June 2008. (KTM - Finnish Ministry of Trade and Industry, 2007-2008)
Facilitation of the scenario working process for Metsähallitus
The work was carried out with the help of a series of work seminars, where different scenarios were used to help to recognize the future opportunities. (2008)
Feasibility study of an environmental business development programme for the Tampere region
Gaia conducted a study to identify Tampere’s strengths and main fields of knowhow in environmental business. Gaia planned three potential environmental and climate business development programmes, which were based on literature, interviews, a workshop and Gaia’s internal expert work. (City of Tampere, 2007-2008)
Best practises in ecological innovations
The project identified and analyzed cases of successful Finnish eco-innovations. The analyzed eco-innovations have responded to important environmental problems with new and innovative products, services, organizational or conceptual innovations. The project covered the stories of nine eco-innovations that have been successful on national or international markets during the 21st century. (Sitra, 2006-2007)
Study on the role of public procurement on creating innovative markets
The aim of this pre-study was to clarify the role of public procurement in creating innovative products and services. (Tekes, 2007)
Tekes strategy to support young innovative companies
Gaia has helped Tekes to build up a strategy for supporting young innovative companies (YIC). The work consisted of a background study to collect the state-of-the-art knowledge of YICs in Finland in different industrial sectors and of the facilitation of the strategy process through a set of workshops and meetings. The work was also supported by the previous Tekes work completed by Gaia and Net Effect Oy to analyse the commercialization of research results produced by public funding. (2006-2007)
