Carbon Footprint Calculator for Chevron
In a recent ground breaking project, Chevron, the world's fourth largest non-government energy company, commissioned Gaia to design a Carbon Footprint Calculator for its well construction operations. The calculator estimates the carbon footprint of future well operations, so that emissions can be minimized in the project design. Both emission reduction and energy cost control can be optimized for well construction logistics and operations.
Chevron’s new Carbon Footprint Calculator for well construction, designed by Gaia, will be globally available to all Chevron's drilling and completion engineers. The emphasis was on constructing an easy to use, logical, fast and accurate tool. The concept covers the logistic chain, operational use, waste management and end-disposal emissions. This enables informed choices. The tool can be used for both comparisons during the design stage and actual auditing. The designed tool can also be used for post-operational accurate auditing and to calculate cost of energy use.
The approach taken by Chevron is indicative of both the importance Chevron places on responsible operations and the overall trend of emission control at design stage. The results of the work will also be published in a paper for the SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers).
