Chemical Substitution: from Principles to Practice
The EU project focuses on practical matters of substitution of hazardous chemicals in the workplace. A practical guidance document will be developed providing methodology for how to carry out effective and targeted substitution, including examples of successful substitution in practice. The project is funded by the Employment, Social Affairs and Equal opportunities DG.
Carbon Footprint Calculator for Chevron
In a recent ground breaking project, Chevron, the world's fourth largest non-government energy company, commissioned Gaia to design a Carbon Footprint Calculator for its well construction operations. The calculator estimates the carbon footprint of future well operations, so that emissions can be minimized in the project design. Both emission reduction and energy cost control can be optimized for well construction logistics and operations.
VIRIKE – risks in Finnish water supply
The risk management practices used by water supply facilities and key stakeholders in Finland were reviewed and challenges evaluated in the VIRIKE project. The outcome of the project indicates that the level of risk management varies significantly in Finland. Every fourth water supply facility of the project’s questionnaire respondents has not done any risk evaluation.
Climate risks and adaptation in maritime transport
The assessment conducted by Gaia identified key risks posed by climate change to operations of Finnish Maritime Administration (FMA). The project was carried out in close cooperation with the Finnish Maritime Administration. The assessment identified priority measures for adapting to climate risks and hereby ensuring safe, efficient and sustainable operational conditions for merchant shipping and sea transport during the 21st century. (Finnish Maritime Administration, 2009).
Finnish-Japanese joint project to understand future societies
Tekes - Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation and Japanese NISTEP - National Institute of Science and Technology Policy have jointly organised a future looking project to understand the needs in future societies.
