Climate Change projects
Gaia in cooperation with UK-based Creatura Ltd has conducted a verification of progress and deliverables by the Indonesia–Norway REDD+ (Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation) Partnership. (Norwegian Ministry of the Environment, 2011)
Carbon markets – an analysis of international carbon markets and new market mechanism initiatives
A consortium led by Gaia Consulting assessed the latest developments on the carbon markets. In particular, the survey provides an analysis of the reform process of Kyoto mechanisms, the implications of recent restrictions on the use of industrial gas Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) within the European Union Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) and the development of new carbon market mechanisms. (Ministry of Environment, 2011)
Climate Risk Management in Finnish Development Cooperation
At the request from the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gaia assessed the water sector projects in Ethiopia to review how climate change risks were integrated into the projects. The outcomes of the study give crucial experience on how best to mainstream climate change into the development cooperation (2011).
Carbon Footprint Calculator for Chevron
In a recent ground breaking project, Chevron, the world's fourth largest non-government energy company, commissioned Gaia to design a Carbon Footprint Calculator. It counts the carbon footprint of well construction operations so that emissions can be minimized in the project design. Both emission reduction and energy cost control can be optimized for all the logistic and operational aspects of well construction.
Climate risks and adaptation in maritime transport
The assessment conducted by Gaia identified key risks posed by climate change to operations of Finnish Maritime Administration (FMA). The project was carried out in close cooperation with the Finnish Maritime Administration. The assessment identified priority measures for adapting to climate risks and hereby ensuring safe, efficient and sustainable operational conditions for merchant shipping and sea transport during the 21st century. (Finnish Maritime Administration, 2009).
